VSOMS Sends Letter to VA Board of Dentistry In Response to Proposed Amendments to Anesthesia Regulations

In response to these proposed amendments, VSOMS sent a letter to the BOD expressing concerns pertaining to two areas: the utilization of CRNAs in dental offices and the omission of the time interval in the monitoring of vital signs when administering moderate sedation or general anesthesia. You may view the letter from VSOMS to the BOD here. We encourage VSOMS members to also submit comments regarding these proposed regulations through the online portal. The deadline for comments is November 13th.
VSOMS Recognized for 50 Year Anniversary During AAOMS House of Delegates Session
VSOMS turns 50 this year and AAOMS acknowledged this milestone anniversary during their first House of Delegates Session in Chicago on October 8, 2019. Virginia Delegates Drs. N. Ray Lee, Tom Padgett and Dipa Patel were there to accept the award, along with VSOMS Executive Director, Laura Givens. They are pictured below with AAOMS President Dr. Drew Ferguson.

VSOMS 2018 Annual Meeting- A Great Success!
VSOMS held our 2018 Annual Meeting February 23-25 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa. New Members were presented certificates and current President, Dr. Caroline Webber, was presented with a plaque to thank her for her leadership by Dr. Dipa Patel (Secretary/Treasurer) and Dr. Neil Agnihotri (President elect)

Dr. N. Ray Lee Receives 2017 VSOMS Distinguished Service Award

Dr. N. Ray Lee was awarded as the 2017 recipient of the Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (VSOMS) Distinguished Service Award in Richmond on February 25th. VSOMS member and friend, Dr. Brian McAndrew, presented him with the award on behalf of VSOMS during the Society’s 2017 Annual Meeting reception at the Williamsburg Lodge. The Distinguished Service award is the highest tribute to a VSOMS member. Dr. Lee has served the VSOMS, AAOMS and the VDA in numerous capacities throughout his long career as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Virginia. Most importantly, he has contributed decades of care to thousands of patients. When accepting the award, Dr. Lee expressed how fortunate he felt to be part of such a rewarding and fulfilling profession.

Missions of Mercy (MOM) Project Donation from Carol Gammons CAbi Trunk Show at VSOMS Annual Meeting
Carol Gammons hosted a CAbi clothing trunk show for attendees and guests at the VSOMS Annual Meeting on April 11. Today she presented the VDA Foundation Interim Executive Director Jess Park and MOM Director of Logistics Barbara Rollins with a generous donation: 15% of her profit from sales at the VSOMS Annual Meeting CAbi Trunk show are being contributed to the MOM Project! VSOMS Executive Director, Laura Givens, was on hand as well to thank Carol.
VSOMS Advises Membership on Itinerant Anesthesia

Dr. Rob Strauss Receives 2015 VSOMS Distinguished Service Award

VSOMS President, Dr. Jim Solomon and VSOMS Executive Council Member and friend of Dr. Strauss’, Dr. Brian McAndrew, presented Dr. Rob Strauss with this award on behalf of VSOMS during the VSOMS 2015 Annual Meeting at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center on April 11. The Distinguished Service award is the highest tribute that the Society can pay to a VSOMS member. Dr. Strauss has contributed many years of service and dedication to VSOMS, the VCU School of Dentistry, the OMS Specialty and dentistry. This award was a small token to express the Society’s appreciation for all he has done for the specialty.
